“Zeeto” is a 3-masted bald-headed Tern Schooner built by Ralph Zimmerman and launched in 1957.  It spent a couple decades sailing in the Caribbean then was purchased and brought to Boston.  From there she was purchased by a dentist from Duluth and sailed to Lake Superior.  The current owner purchased the boat in 2005.  Over the next few years a major refit was done to the hull including replacing and repairing frames and completely cold-molding the original yellow pine strip planked hull with fiberglass.  During this process great pains were taken to maintain the wood planked look of the original hull.  A new teak deck was added in 2012.  “Zeeto” has been in 4 Duluth Tall Ship’s Festivals, written up several times in Lake Superior Magazine and had a feature article written about her in the Duluth Tribune. Schooners have a unique American heritage with a variety of rigs. The 187’ 3-masted topsail schooner Atlantic held a speed record set in 1905 as the fastest monohull to cross the Atlantic. She averaged 10.32 knots over a 3014 mile distance in 12 days, 4 hours and 1 minute. Schooners started taking trade and fishing and could sail higher along the coasts using the sea breezes. Zeeto has a gaff headed and foresail and a Marconi mizzen and jib. The boat sleeps 8 in 2 double midship berths, 2 singles in forward cabin and the salon settee folds down to a double berth. The two cabin layout is trimmed with cherry wood.  The boat is currently on the hard with Sitka Spruce masts up, but is ready to sail with little additional work required. The mizzen mast was replaced in 2015. She has a full keel with lead & iron ballast of which all were removed, painted, weighed and replaced. Engine maintenance/filters have received regular attention.  The boat was last in the water in 2017.
