The Dovekie is considered to be a radical design by Phil Bolger and built by Edy & Duff.  She’s certainly unusual and that is what makes this decked-over open, flat bottomed boat interesting.  She has no dead-rise, no rocker and has rather large wooden leeboards finished bright and controlled with clever interior handles.  Her flat bottom enables sailing in the shallow water and there is a tiny bow centerboard for working to weather. She has an attached, barn-door rudder head that has a kick up rudder. This boat has a sturdy aluminum thwart motor mount, but there are also oar ports so you don’t have to rely on a motor (2 HP recommended) when the wind dies. Under sail (top speed just under 6 knts) she feels like a big skiff and is stable underway or at anchor. Her best features are that she is her ease of towing behind a small car (trailering weight is 1,100 lbs), ease of launching and retrieving at ramps and her ease of rigging and unrigging and striking the mast (6’ clearance under bridges).  She is noted for her 2-person camper-style cruising in very shallow water.  She’s only a draft of 4” with the board up so she can easily be beached.  Her rig is that of a Marconi cat-rig. These boats were built from 1976 to 1998. This boat is in pretty nice condition and has been nicely kept.
