Designed by John Butler and built to Lloyds of London certification, the Cirrus has modern, clean-cut lines with full headroom and a light airy cabin.  High quality materials keep maintenance to a minimum and preserves the exceptional finish which sailors expect of Westerlys which has become a hallmark of their vessels. The self-bailing cockpit is larger than usual, its depth is a safety factor and helmsman and crew have an unimpeded view forward. The side decks are wide enough for easy access to the foredeck. Lockers under the cockpit seats are deep and roomy.  The jib sheet sliding tracks and all deck fittings and standing rigging are of SS or bronze. Burma teak is the wood used – or teak faced plywood.  There is a two cabin layout for maximum comfort below. The main cabin has a dinette which converts to a wide 6’3” berth.  The sink, stove space and ice box are opposite.  Windows are at eye level.  The headroom is 6’ for comfortable life aboard. A door separates the two cabins or closes off the marine head. Opposite this is a hanging locker. In the forward cabin there are two full-length berths (7’ and 6’2”) and good headroom makes changing easy.  There is also a 6’3” quarter berth that extends into the cabin on the port side that acts as a seat for lounging. The mast and boom are aluminum and the seacocks are bronze. The Cirrus was the outright winner of the British Yachting World One of a Kind Rally. The boat was deemed as “a great deal of intelligent thought, most successfully fulfilled its design intention and offer good value for the money”.  The Westerly Cirrus is a 4-berth fiberglass, fin keel, sailing cruisder for those who want to cruise leisurely or race and have enough space below to enjoy life aboard in maximum comfort.  The boat has been sailed on Lake Superior and the owner is moving up into a larger sailboat.
