LM Glasfiber produced quality Pilothouse and Auxiliary Cruising Sailboats in Lunderskov, Denmark, where the best boats in the world are arguably built. There’s no limit to quality and uniqueness to this LM Mermaid 315 which was the first of the two Mermaid designs, the latter being the LM 270.  The Mermaid models used the same hull molds developed for the world famous LM Pilothouse sailboats, but instead of a pilothouse they have fixed windshields, tall rigs with the tiller standard for steering.  Sally Lightfoot, however, has wheel steering. All have canoe sterns.  Originally for the U.S. market, Volvo Penta diesel inboards were supplied, but this boat was repowered in 2013 with a 3 GM (30HP) Yanmar including a new sail drive and Max Prop. There is only 321 hours on this newer inboard which cruises the vessel at 5-6 knots with a top speed of 7 kts. The LM 315 sleeps a total of 7 with a double forepeak, two slide-out port and starboard settees and a port quarter berth.  The galley is U-Shaped across from the Nav Table which slides out from over the quarter berth.  There is a center mounted-twin leaf table for eating.  The privately enclosed (and remarkably large) head is located between the forward cabin and main salon.  This boat is in excellent condition.  The double spreader deck stepped rig is tall and the underbody is modern with a fin keel and spade rudder with skeg.  When running before a high, rolling sea you’re pleased she has retained her distinctive double-ender stern. Holding a steady course is important. People think it was purely a matter of length of the keel but that’s not the whole story. The Mermaid 315 carries a relatively long fin keel but the secret lies foremost in the shape of the hull and in the profile of the keel and rudder.  She is truly an exceptional “off-shore”, compact, “blue water” cruiser with a nice soft action in high seas. She handles very easily – just properly trim the sails, lock in the brake and she tracks endlessly - ready for anything and is as happy at anchor as she is on the open sea.
